The Cycle of Life

I Trust My Inner Guidance System.png

Everything in life is cyclical. When we learn to listen to the subtle hints of the universe, we can discover amazing things about ourselves and the world around us. A women’s menstrual or moon cycle is no different, it too is a sequence within itself. Not only does is it give us an indication of pregnancy (or not) but it whispers to us various patterns of our mood throughout the process. If we would only take time to stop and listen we would discover a beautiful ebb and flo phenomena that could provide is with many of the answers we seek. Whether your trying to conceive or have several toddlers that you give every ounce of your energy to, take some time to listen to your goddess voice, she will tell you everything you need to know.

Visualization and Conception

Visualization plays a major role in trying to conceive. The connection between mind and body are forces that power the subconscious to send signals to perform our desired outcomes.  By using guided imagery, you can leverage this innate and powerful mind-body connection to achieve real and physical changes in your body. Pregnancy is one area where visualization is key in achieving a positive result. When a desired pregnancy does not occur it can lead to high levels of stress, anxiety, depression and a host of other changes that often cause a chemical imbalance setting off a chain of events. Many women and couples are at a loss of where to begin. Below I’ve put together a few things that helped me and hopefully that can help you get started in your own personal  visualization process:

  • Keep a journal of positive affirmations
  • Create a Vision Board
  • Guided Meditation
  • Think about your favorite form of exercise and do it!
  • Surround yourself with positive people and those who support you in your journey
  • Light a candle first thing in the morning for a short meditation or right before bed
  • Think about your baby! See it, smell it, touch your belly and visualize your baby in your womb.

Trust me, it works! This process rewarded me with two beautiful girls 🙂

Ear Infections….Prevention is Key!

As the school year quickly approaches, many toddlers and babies will be heading back to school and/or daycare, YIKES!! The number one question I get asked about is how we prevent ear infections. Ear infections are the most common reason children are brought to a pediatrician’s office and are the main reason for the prescribing of antibiotics. Neither one of our daughters has ever had an ear infection, I attribute this to many factors including diet but more importantly to what we do for ear care. Because everyone we knew with kids dealt with ear infections we made sure to keep a strong eye out. Recommended by our holistic pediatrician, who we absolutely LOVE, we started to use Mullein Oil.  Several weeks after each of the girls were born we placed several drops of Mullein Oil in each year 2-3 xs per week after their bath….did it work? ABSOLUTELY!!

Herbal Medicine Mullein Garlic Ear Drops Herbs Liquid, 1 OzSo what exactly is Mullein Oil? Mullein Oil is an oil made from the flowers of the mullein plant that is combined with garlic. Mullein is used to help with inflammation and is an anti-viral; combined with the wonders of olive oil that has anti-fungal, antibacterial, AND antiviral properties it makes for an awesome natural treatment for ear infections. You can purchase Mullein Oil from any local Whole Foods or health food store, the price ranges from $8-$12 which sure beats the price and time of a doctors visit.

The key is to start using the drops NOW before your kiddo’s head back to school. Give it and try and let me know what you think, I’d love to hear from you!  Leave a comment or suggestion on Facebook or via email at

Mama Fitness! Because Well Babies, Need Well Mama’s

Working out is hard enough but trying to find time to fit a work out in with children is well, crazy, to say the least! It took me a little over two full years to feel close to myself again and I’m still not done yet. We know that after having a baby our body is never the same, but we can at least come close. Being healthy should be number one priority and looking like a smokin’ hot mama is not out of the picture. It may seem like it can’t be done but just taking “baby steps” can pay off big time. Here are some quick and fun ways to get a workout that will have you feeling and looking good in no time:

~ Now that summer is here, don’t just sit and watch at the park JOIN IN! Run with your kiddos’, push them on the swings, run through the jungle gym, go all the way cruise down the slide!! They will love it and you’ll have fun too! This was hands down how I lost most of my baby weight.

~If you still have smaller children that require a stroller, go for a walk or light jog.

~Many of you work full-time just like me. Pick two days out of the week and run or walk around or near your workplace. You can do this before or after work;  depending on what type of job you have, exercising during your lunch break can be an option also. If childcare is an issue, try picking your little one(s) up 45 min later or if you have to go with weekends have a “TRUSTWORTHY” friend or neighbor look after your little one(s) for an hour while you take an exercise break. It will be worth it for both you and them!

~Last but not least, this is my all time must! After you put the little ones down put on some relaxing music, stretch and meditate. Stretching not only strengthens your muscles but it will help tone your body. No one can argue with what meditation can do for you, my all time favorite relaxation station is “Sounds of Reiki” on Pandora.  I have a sequence of stretches that I do along with some push-ups and planks. I try to do this at least 3-4xs a week minimum. Sometimes I slack off but hey, I can get right back on it, let’s face it this is the life of a mom.

One thing to remember, try not to focus on the weight. I know it’s difficult but remember the more you focus on something the more of it you will get. So let’s focus on being healthy and let the pounds take care of themselves.

Summer Safety for Little Ones

Image result for summer

Summer is finally here and we try to spend as much time outdoors as possible. Our two girls are busy 3 and 5 year olds now and love to run around any playground they can get their hands on; and of course the infamous splash pads around the city.  This means being prepared as we leave the house for whatever adventure we’re tacking that day. With the temperatures rapidly rising, you will need to take certain measure to keep your little ones safe. Here are a few tips to help everyone keep their cool…

Stay Hydrated– Not only should the kids stay hydrated but you should too. Keep refillable bpa free water bottles around the house and allow the kids to bring them along. Our girls have bottles with their favorite characters (Peppa Pig and Hello Kitty) on them which has really encouraged them to drink more water throughout the day and while we are out.  If your child has a hard time just drinking plain water, try and 50/50 juice/water ratio or even go for a 75/25 juice/water ratio which is even better!

Sunscreen– Some may disagree with me but I’m not a fan of manufactured sunscreens. There are too many chemicals in them that can potentially lead to more than just cancer and I refuse to put them on the girls skin. For that reason, we use natural sunscreens which we don’t have to think about applying because we use them EVERYDAY! Here are a few we us:

Coconut Oil -(Natural SPF 4-10 depending on the brand)

Shea Butter- (Natural SPF 6-10 depending on the brand)

Hera are a list of others you may use as well just in case of nut allergies.

  • red raspberry seed oil – SPF between 30 and 50 (seriously!)
  • carrot seed oil – SPF 30.
  • wheat germ oil – SPF 20.
  • hazelnut oil – SPF 15.
  • coconut oil – SPF 10.
  • soybean oil – SPF 10.
  • macadamia oil – SPF 6.

As a recipe you can combine 1/4 cup of coconut oil, 1/4 cup beeswax, 2 tablespoons of Shea Butter and a few drops of any essential oil of your choice, calendar is our all time fav!

Bug Spray– This one is a must! Mosquito’s get pretty rough here in the south. Here’s a natural repellent we use that works wonders and safe for the kiddos.

In a small spray bottle filled with purified water add 5 drops of Purification essential oil and 5 drops of Peppermint essential oil, shake and spray.

Most of all have fun and enjoy!!

What is a Birth Consultant and why should I hire one?

This is often the first question I’m asked when I meet women and the discussion turns into what I do for a living. After I explain it,  I’m always met with a “Wow, that’s pretty cool” ” Is that like a Doula?” or ” Where were you when I was having my kids.” I love talking to people about what I do and how I can help them or someone they know have a phenomenal birth experience.  Well, to answer the questions we birth consultants are a “jack of all trades” when it comes to birth. We come to your rescue about any and every question you may have that’s pre/post pregnancy related and beyond. Birth consultants work with an expectant woman or couple from pre-conception through post-partum recovery. Although we are NOT your primary caregiver, we ARE your advocate, support person, and friend. We will make sure your are not bullied by the medical world into making decisions you are not sure about. I truly believe a mother always knows, others make her second guess.

The before and after of the birth experience can be a scary road for some. It’s my job to make sure the fear of conceiving and giving birth becomes non-existent. Many couples have questions about the financial aspect of having a baby; this is another area I cover with clients. From arranging short and long term disability to reviewing hospital discharge bills and finding financial support for families the goal is to make sure your family is equipped to make informed decisions while having the birth experience you want.

Everything Has Its Season…

During the last year I’ve worked with many beautiful mothers whom are overwhelmed with the process of conceiving or not conceiving when they would  like. Having had the same experience, we often have the mind set that we are on our own time and babies will come when WE want them to. In essence, spiritually, this is possible however, everything must be in sync. Mama’s vibrations must be elevated so the body can do its work. When we offer resistance we are saying to the universe the very thing we are asking for is not what we want. Being open and receptive allows for many  transformations to start to take place, when we let go we allow the season that’s supposed to take place in our lives manifest. Be open, Be True, Be You.

Let The Weaning Begin!

The weaning process has become a bitterness to a sweet end for me. For the last 3 years I’ve breastfed my two beautiful girls, and I must say its been a great experience. Although it takes lots of time and energy, just knowing they both got off to a great start both mentally and physically is well worth it. Not only has it given them an immune system booster, it has helped establish a bond that is irreplaceable.
As for me, well, I must say I’m a little sad and really didn’t think I would be. For a long time I’ve looked forward to getting just a little extra sleep, some time in the evenings to relax, or not having to rush home to deliver milk or nurse my precious baby to sleep. Now that I’m down to pumping just once a day I see our journey quickly coming to an end. A part of me knows stopping is o.k. because our baby girl is getting more than enough nourishment from the food she’s eating, she took a liking to food much more quickly than our two year old and is drinking a single 8oz bottle per day. The other part of me wants to keep that small string attached to the two of us to let mommy know her baby girl still needs her.
There are many physical and emotional quirks that are happening as well, I feel my body making gradual changes in an attempt to get back to its old self. A sense of awakening is starting as I recognize our girls are getting older and exploring the world for themselves, pushing boundaries everyday. New opportunities are presenting themselves for me to explore and finally I’m able to see just a little clearer where once there was fog.
My husband and I are still busier than ever but entering a new season as a family. Just as summer has ended and we begin fall, my wish to all my sister mama’s is to embrace the season you are in with your little ones, it’s true what our mama warrior’s before us have said……………”the days are long and the years are truly short. ” Enjoy Them 🙂

Keep Calm and Help A Mom

As national breastfeeding month comes to a close, let’s focus on being connected and helping each other. Whether we nourish our children from the breast or bottle we all deserve to be supported and have a space we can come to and refuel our souls. Motherhood alone is enough to take calmness out of each day but remember we are our children’s source and with that comes a unique energy that needs to be rejuvenated. I urge and challenge you to talk to one another, look behind what you see; it can simply be a “hello” or “how are things going?” that can get a conversation going. For me, I meet many moms in the aisles of Target and it’s just a matter of time before we are talking birth! If you have questions, or just plain don’t know what to do about breastfeeding, being a mom, being a first time mom, sex after pregnancy, postpartum body or whatever your individual issue is reach out, send an email, google a support group or email us here at Well Done Babies and we will help, if we can’t you best believe we will find someone who can. You don’t have to walk this beautiful journey of motherhood alone…..Be Open and Receive!
